Why Is Pork Siomai with Shrimp Popular?
I like everything about Pork Siomai with shrimp, but some points that make it famous are the fillings and dipping sauce. There are other reasons as well, such as cultural affiliation and comfort food. Let’s discuss them below!
Taste:
My favorite part about the dumplings is the fillings. The main ingredients are pork and shrimp, and this combo, along with the sauces, creates a flavor no one can resist.
Comfort Food:
Another reason why I think it’s famous is the comfort. The dumplings are warm soft, with delicious filling, perfect for a mood when you’re feeling low. The plus point is they’re a better and healthier option than fast food.
Dipping Sauce:
Dumplings are delicious on their own, but the dipping sauce makes them even more tempting. It adds flavor to every bite.
Easy Way to Make Pork Siomai With Shrimp at Home
You can make the Pork Siomai with shrimp easily by following the steps below:
Key-Ingredients:
- 1/2 kilo pork (ground pork)
- 1/4 kilo shrimp (minced)
- 1 medium onion (minced)
- 1 medium carrot (minced)
- 2 stalks spring/green onions (minced)
- 1 head of garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 2 eggs
- Siomai/wonton wrappers
Cooking Instructions:
- First, grab a large mixing bowl and toss in the ground pork and minced shrimp. Now, it’s time to add some flavor to our meat mixture. Reach for the minced onion, carrot, spring onions, and garlic and sprinkle them into the bowl.
- Pour in the soy sauce, fish sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, brown sugar, and oyster sauce, then mix everything well using your hands. After mixing the sauces with the meat, add eggs and mix again.
- Take parchment paper, or you can also use banana leaves and brush it with oil. This will be used in the steamer.
- Lay out your Siomai wrappers on a clean surface and take a tablespoon of the meat mixture onto the center of each wrapper. You can wet the edges of the wrapper with a bit of water to pinch all the sides together at the top, leaving the center open.
- Simply place your Siomai in the steamer baskets (on banana leaves or parchment paper), making sure they’re not touching each other. They need their personal space to cook properly. Once the water’s boiling, put the baskets in the steamer and cover them up.
- After the time’s up, carefully remove the Siomai from the steamer. They’ll be hot, so give them a minute to cool down. Serve them up with your favorite dipping sauce – use soy sauce, calamansi juice, and chili oil for it. And there you have it – homemade pork Siomai with shrimp, ready to be enjoyed!
